AZILDA, ON – April 11, 2025 — A serious two-vehicle collision in Azilda sent two people to hospital Thursday morning, including one woman with life-threatening injuries.

Shortly after 10:00 a.m. on April 10, emergency services were called to the intersection of Municipal Road 35 and Monte Principale following a crash involving two SUVs. According to Greater Sudbury Police, the collision occurred when an SUV traveling westbound on MR 35 attempted to turn onto Monte Principale and collided with an oncoming SUV headed eastbound.

The driver of the westbound vehicle, a 33-year-old man, was not injured. However, the 28-year-old woman driving the eastbound SUV was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. An 81-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the eastbound vehicle, sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was also taken to hospital.

Greater Sudbury Fire Services and Paramedic Services responded alongside police. The Integrated Traffic Safety Unit has taken over the investigation, which remains ongoing. As a result of the crash, MR 35 was closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have relevant information to contact them at 705-675-9171.
