Updated: Motor Vehicle Collision – Elgin Street

 

 

(SUDBURY, ON) Updated - July 28th, 2016 11:00am: On Thursday, July 28, at approximately 8:12 p.m. a black Infinity operated by a 36-year old male with a female passenger rear-ended a Hyundai Santa Fe which had just parked on Elgin Street across from the Laughing Buddha in Sudbury.   
Impact of the collision caused the Santa Fe to strike a parking meter, as well as, a light standard, and an unoccupied parked Toyota Prius which in turn struck an unoccupied parked Honda Accord.  
Preliminary investigation indicates that the Infinity was travelling East on Elgin Street at a high rate of speed and lost control prior to the collision.  
That female driver of the parked Santa Fe was taken to Health Sciences North with serious injuries, she remains in hospital today.   
The driver of the Infinity was taken into custody by Uniform Patrol Officers and subsequently produced breath samples that were more than double the legal limit of 80 milligrams.   
The 36-year old male driver was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

 

Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm x 2

Northern Internet Solution

 

Exceed 80 mgs of Alcohol in 100 mLs of blood

 

Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm x 2   
The accused driver also breached a court order condition to “abstain from alcohol” from a previous Police matter.  The accused driver was held in custody and will be attending Bail Court this morning.  The female passenger who was with the accused male inside the Infinity, suffered serious but non-life threating injuries and was admitted to Health Sciences North.

Original: The Greater Sudbury Police Service is currently on the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision on Elgin St. in the downtown core.  As a result, Elgin St. is closed between Minto St. and Durham St until further notice.  Motorists are urged to use alternate routes to avoid the area.
