Updated: The submerged plane has been located. Greater Sudbury Police Service is continuing their efforts in collaboration with the Ontario Provincial Police to locate the missing pilot.
The Greater Sudbury Police Service assisting the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has conducted visual
observations of Fairbanks Lake to determine if it has been contaminated as a result of fuel or oil leakage from the plane
that is submerged.

Updated: There is no evidence to suggest the lake has been contaminated, however, the Greater Sudbury Police Service will work in conjunction with the provincial entities to ensure the water quality of Fairbanks Lake is maintained.

Spills Action Centre at 1-800-268-6060. Residents may direct any questions or concerns regarding the quality of the water
for the purpose of drinking to the Sudbury & District Health Unit at 705-522-9200 extension 464.
All lakes within the City of Greater Sudbury are governed by the Province of Ontario.
Greater Sudbury Police continue to search for the 60 year-old, male pilot.
Residents of Fairbanks Lake are asked to contact Police if they locate any plane debris or unknown items that may be
related to the crash.

Updated - September 22nd 2016 5:00am: An extensive Search and Rescue Operation is currently ongoing by members of the Greater Sudbury Police Services Marine Unit and Search Team. This collaborative effort has been assisted by a Search and Rescue Team from CFB Trenton, who dispatched a C-130 Hercules and a Helicopter to the scene. A 32 year old male passenger who was rescued at the scene sustained minor injuries, was taken to the hospital and released. The 60 year old male pilot remains outstanding. As of this time, the plane is believed to resting at the bottom of the lake in approximately 130 feet of water. Transport Canada Investigators and members of the OPP’s Underwater Recovery Unit will be assisting with the investigation and search in the morning.

Original: On the 21st of September 2016, at 8:00 pm, the Greater Sudbury Police Service was contacted and advised of a float plane crash. As a result, Police, Fire Services and EMS are currently at Fairbanks Lake in Worthington. It has been learned that a float plane crash landed on the lake. The investigation is on going.
