Greater Sudbury Police Service was called to the Montrose area of New Sudbury for a complaint of a bear found dead in a residential backyard September 24th, 2016.
Upon arrival the attending Supervisor determined that the bear had been shot at an unknown location and succumbed to its injuries where it was found.
Through the combined efforts of the Greater Sudbury Police Service, the City of Greater of Sudbury and concerned neighbors the bear was removed from the backyard and transported from the location by the City of Greater Sudbury.
The public is reminded that discharging a firearm within the city limits is contrary to the City Bylaw but is also criminal in nature and may result in charges.
The Ministry of Natural Resources should be contacted in relation to nuisance bears and in emergency situations where there is a threat of injury or to life the Greater Sudbury Police Service should be called.
