Flood Outlook Statement Has Issued Been For Greater Sudbury and Surrounding Area

The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Nickel District Conservation Authority have issue a Flood Outlook Statement for Sudbury,

Markstay-Warren, St. Charles, Espanola, areas of the North-shore, Manitoulin Island, the Municipalities of French River, Killarney and the unorganized townships south of Sudbury that a Watershed Conditions Statement - Flood Outlook remains in effect within these areas.

The key watersheds included in this statement are; the Aux Sables River, Spanish River, Wanapitei River, Vermillion River, Onaping River and Whitefish River. Residents in these areas should keep a close watch on conditions, regularly check for updated messages and stay away from fast-moving rivers and streams.

MNR is closely monitoring the weather and developing watershed conditions. Further updates will be issued as appropriate.

The weather forecast in the Sudbury District is calling for a Colorado low to move into our area from southern Ontario for the next few days. This system will bring rain, with total precipitation in the range of 40-50 mm. The temperatures remain below normal, with

daytime highs in the range of 5-10 degrees and the evening temperatures staying above freezing.

There is still a significant amount of snowpack higher in the watersheds with ice remaining on many of these rivers and lakes. The flows and levels remain high and we anticipate that these levels will rise over the next few days with the current weather system.
