On the 29th of April 2014 at 5:20 am, an adult male broke into The Beer Store at 1485 Lasalle Boulevard in the City of Greater Sudbury. The offence was carried out when the suspect attended the retailer while operating a stolen red Dodge Ram 1500 truck. The truck was reported stolen to police earlier in the day.
The suspect backed the vehicle through a large glass display window of the store causing extensive damage. He entered The Beer Store through the smashed window. The suspect was observed by a passerby loading cases of beer in the box of the truck prior to fleeing the scene. The incident was captured on surveillance cameras. Officers of the Uniform Division attended the area and commenced a criminal investigation supported by detectives of the Break Enter and Robbery Unit (B.E.A.R.).
On the 29th April 2014 at 4:00 pm members of the B.E.A.R. Unit arrested a 29 year old male for the crime. In addition to the break and enter, the accused was wanted on an unrelated outstanding arrest warrant for theft under $5000. At the time of his arrest the accused was in possession of some alcohol taken from the break and enter.
Following the arrest, a criminal code search warrant was executed at a residence associated to the accused on Cochrane Street. During the search, officers recovered more alcohol believed to be taken during the break and enter. The stolen truck used during the crime was also located a short distance from the residence where the search was conducted.
The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing on the following offences:
• Break, Enter and Commit Theft
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
• Drive While Disqualified
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order
• Fail to Comply with Recognizance
• Theft of Motor Vehicle
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
