The student teams from École St-Dominique (Sudbury) and École Alliance St-Joseph (Chelmsford) were dominant at the 11th annual Battle of the Books competition on April 30, 2014 and won the top two medals. The Requins from École St-Dominique pursued their domination at this event by winning the gold medal in the Francophone competition. École St-Dominique students have a well-deserved reputation of representing a school whose students devour books and love to read. This is the fifth time in the last seven years that this French Catholic school has claimed the championship.
The Lynx from Chelmsford’s École Alliance St-Joseph also excelled and finished second overall and won the Team Spirit Award. Whereas this silver medal is their first one ever at the Battle of the Books contest, the Lynx were also awarded the Team Spirit Award in 2013.
Organized by the Greater Sudbury Public Library, the competition enabled 12 French-language Catholic and Public schools from the community to read 30 books before taking part in the competition aimed at promoting enthusiasm for books and reading among students and promoting literacy in schools. The program was created to stimulate enjoyment of recreational reading in grades 4, 5 and 6 by encouraging students to read more books written by authors they already enjoy and to discover new authors.
The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.

Les élèves des écoles St-Dominique (Sudbury) et de l’Alliance St-Joseph (Chelmsford) ont brillé lors du volet francophone de la 11e édition de la Bataille des livres qui a eu lieu le 30 avril 2014. Les Requins de l’école St-Dominique ont renoué avec la victoire en remportant la médaille d’or. Les élèves de St-Dominique ont acquis toute une réputation comme étant une école où les élèves dévorent des livres et adorent la lecture. En effet, cette école catholique francophone a remporté le championnat pas moins de cinq fois dans les sept dernières années.
Les Lynx de l'école Alliance St-Joseph se sont démarqués en remportant la deuxième place ainsi que le prix d'esprit d'équipe. Alors que cette médaille d’argent représentait la toute première de l’école à la Bataille des livres, les Lynx s’étaient également mérité le prix d’esprit d’équipe en 2013.
Ce concours, organisé par la Bibliothèque publique du Grand Sudbury, a permis aux équipes de 12 écoles catholiques et publiques francophones de la communauté de lire 30 livres avant de se livrer à une compétition qui vise à favoriser le plaisir de la lecture comme loisir. Cette activité fait aussi la promotion de l'alphabétisation chez les élèves des 4e, 5e et 6e années, en les encourageant à lire davantage de livres d'auteurs qu'ils aiment déjà ainsi qu’à découvrir de nouveaux auteurs.
