OPP stop the same driver for speeding twice within the span of an hour

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) - On January 19, 2024, police stopped and charged the same driver twice for speeding in a time span of less than an hour.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m., Nipissing West OPP stopped a vehicle for travelling 110 kilometers an hour (km/h) in a posted 80 km/h zone on Highway 64, West Nipissing.

A 35-year-old-person from Lavigne was charged with speeding.

Shortly after 5:00 p.m., Nipissing West OPP stopped the same vehicle traveling 110 km/h in a posted 70 km/h zone on Levac Street, West Nipissing.

The same driver was arrested and charged with, drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on March 13, 2024, in Sturgeon Falls.

The driver was also issued a 30-day Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

The OPP wants to ensure your safety on the roads in our communities, be aware that stunt driving is a serious offense when exceeding 40 km/h in an 80 km/h zone or less and is exceeding 50 km/h in a 90 km/h or more.
