Bomb squad called in to identify suspicious device

At Approximately 6:30pm this evening Greater Sudbury Police blocked off a section of Spruce Street in Sudbury between MacLachlan and Ethelbert. Several homes have been evacuated as a precautionary measure and police are advising that there is no danger to the public in the area.

Police were executing a search warrant at 495 Spruce Street, formerly Live Once Tattoo, and a suspicious device was located. Members from the Greater Sudbury Police Tactical Unit as well as the OPP Bomb Squad were called in to identify and control the device.

At one point there were as many as three fire trucks, another vehicle from Greater Sudbury Fire Services, an ambulance, an EMS vehicle, and half dozen or more police vehicles. Several undercover officers were also observed at the scene.

Inspector Dan Markiwhich of Emergency Operation with the Greater Sudbury Police said it will several more hours before officers have identified and controlled the device at approximately 10pm.
