Seismic Event Saturday July 5th, 2014 Confirmed by Vale

Tuesday, July 8th, 2014: A representative from Vale confirmed this morning that their equipment registered Saturday's seismic event as a 2.9 magnitude event that took place between the 5000 and 5100ft level of Garson Mine.

There were no injuries to workers or any damage sustained to the mine.

There was no scheduled blast at the time of the event.

Residents of Garson described the event on our Facebook Page Saturday morning as violent shaking that was almost explosive like in some cases. The event that last approximately 15 secs by most people's accounts was felt by people as far Capreol and Lively.
On Monday Earthquakes Canada had released their stats (seen below) for this weekends seismic event felt across the city. Earthquakes Canada has clarified and advised GSO that they removed the event from their 30 Summary because it is not standard practice to include minning related events in this summary. This event can still be found using the "Earthquake Search" on their website.
