GSPS Public Safety Announcement

As many Sudburians are aware, in Quebec yesterday a soldier was run down and in Ottawa today, a soldier was shot and killed in what is believed to be a possible terrorist attack. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are extended to the families.

Greater Sudbury Police work collaboratively with our policing and intelligence partners and to date we do not have any information indicating that there is a threat to Greater Sudbury. The Service, along with all police services in Ontario, is operating at a higher level of readiness and is aware and prepared to respond to public safety threats that may arise. The Service will continue to monitor all intelligence information that becomes available.

While there is no imminent threat to public safety at this time, the Greater Sudbury Police Service urges all citizens of the community to be vigilant. If anyone should witness or suspect illegal or suspicious activities, or behaviours of concern, please contact police at 675-9171 or 9-1-1 if there is an imminent threat. Concerned citizens are asked to take note and describe as many details as you can recall.

Everyone should maintain a heightened awareness of their surroundings and remain vigilant when around personal safety. We further suggest that businesses, both public and private, review their Emergency Plans and remain vigilant when it comes to personal safety.

We will continue to work together to ensure the safety and well-being of our City.

I feel confident in our Police and citizens to handle what-ever may come our way. Wish I had the same confidence in our Hospital
