(SUDBURY, ON) On the 20th of January 2015 at approximately 06:30 a.m. an off duty Greater Sudbury Police Service Communications Center Dispatcher was driving Northbound on Barrydowne Road when he observed a pair of large transport truck tires with rims intact rolling down Barrydowne Road past his vehicle. The tires eventually came to a stop in the parking lot of a local business without causing any damage to any persons or property.

 Uniformed officers, as well as a member of the Traffic Management Unit, attended the scene and they observed a transport truck and trailer from the Toronto area stopped in the turning lane missing the rear left two axle tires of the trailer. The trailer was towed and an investigation was conducted to determine how the two tires became separated from the trailer. The investigation concluded that a locking washer inside a locking nut was installed improperly causing the tires to become dislodged from the axel. No charges were laid in this investigation.

 Transport Drivers are encouraged to remember the importance of their vehicle safety inspections. They are also reminded to make sure that when they are conducting vehicle inspections that they check the wheel hub oil levels. If the levels are below the minimum oil level this may indicate possible mechanical problems and the trailer should not be put into service until the problem is rectified.
