Police seeking public assistance in hit and run in Naughton

On Thursday the 16th of July 2015 at approximately 9:45 pm, the Greater Sudbury Police Service responded to the scene of motor vehicle collision on Municipal Road 55 at St Louis Street in Naughton (Greater Sudbury). A motorcycle was eastbound on Municipal Road 55 approaching St Louis Street when it encountered an off road vehicle also eastbound. The off road vehicle was being operated at a high rate of speed, in an erratic manner and without any lighting.

The off road vehicle made an erratic movement which cut off the motorcycle causing the vehicles to come in contact. The motorcycle spilled and the operator was ejected.

The unidentified suspect made eye contact with the motorcycle operator as the collision occurred and then fled the scene at a high rate of speed towards Lively without stopping to render aid.

The motorcyclist was left lying on the roadway injured; citizens stopped and rendered assistance until emergency services attended. The motorcyclist received extensive injuries causing him to be hospitalized.

The matter is currently under investigation by officers of the Uniform Division and the Traffic Management Unit.

The operator is described as a young male, thin build wearing a hoodie and a dirt bike style helmet. The suspect was operating a dark colored possibly red ATV with a box / 2 up seat with damage behind the drivers left leg area towards the rear of the vehicle. The suspect vehicle was last seen in the area of Municipal Road 55 and Black Lake Road.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service is currently following up information received from witnesses but is asking for the further assistance of the public for any information they may have in relation to this collision and the identity of the operator of the off road vehicle.
