UPDATED: Collision on Highway 69 Claims Two Lives

Update July 25th, 2015 18:30 - On July 25, 2015 at approximately 2:00 p.m. members of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police responded to a multiple vehicle collision three kilometres south of Pointe au Baril on Highway 69 in Shawanaga Township.

A northbound pick-up truck attempted to pass two Camper trucks and was forced to swear to miss a southbound Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). The SUV met the northbound camper truck head on. The West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI), Carling Fire Department, Parry Sound Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and OPP helicopter attended the scene.

Both occupants of the SUV succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Two occupants from the pick-up truck and two occupants from the camper truck were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is continuing and the highway remains closed at this time..

Original Story - OPP are on the scene and have closed Highway 69S approximately 3km south of Point au Baril due to a multi-vehicle collision.

A detour has been set up via Highway 522 to Highway 17 for northbound traffic and Highway 124 to Highway 17 for southbound traffic.

The duration of the closure is unknown at this time.
