Enhanced Policies and Funding Available for Local Arts and Culture in the New Year

Greater Sudbury Council and the Greater Sudbury Development Corporation (GSDC) have approved enhancements to funding and eligibility criteria for not-for-profit arts and cultural institutions in the community. Revised policies are available online at www.investsudbury.ca or by dialing 3-1-1.

Arts and culture grant programs were established by Greater Sudbury Council to stimulate growth and development of an economic sector with potential to attract and retain a talented and creative workforce. Since 2005, the municipality has more than doubled its annual budget allocations to support the operations of not-for-profit arts and cultural institutions.

Two new categories, “Project Grants” and “Operating Grants”, have been created under revised policies to replace previous community and major grant programs. The combined budget for the two funding streams is $577,000, a $47,563 increase over 2013.

New funding streams have simplified the application process for municipal funding. Eligible requests under Project Grants include special or one-time activities or exhibits, skills development and acquisition of new equipment. Operating Grants support organizations that have an ongoing presence in the city and an established track record of success.

Application forms and information sessions for interested organizations will be available during the month January. For more information, please dial 3-1-1 and ask for extension 4429.
