The Greater Sudbury Police Service would like to alert retail store owners and the public about an organized group of individuals that have been targeting local retail stores in the City of Greater Sudbury by utilizing fraudulent credit cards to purchase large quantities of cigarettes. The total loss to date that has been reported to the Greater Sudbury Police Service is in excess of $12,000.00. As part of our commitment to creating awareness to our community regarding ongoing crime trends, our Fraud Branch is encouraging store owners to put a limit on the number of cartons that can be sold to an individual. We also recommend that store owners be mindful of this scam when patrons wish to purchase larger than normal quantities of cigarettes or other goods. If you observe a suspicious person or transaction you are encouraged to call Greater Sudbury Police Service at 705-675-9171 or Crime Stoppers at 222-TIPS, online at www.sudburycrimestoppers.com or by texting TIPSUD and the information to CRIMES (274637
