Motorist charged with 123km/h on MR80 hours after highway re-opened Monday

In a continued effort to ensure Community Safety within Greater Sudbury, the police continue to monitor roadways and encourage all drivers to drive responsibly.
On Monday January 18th shortly after Municipal Road 80 was re-opened after the fatal motor vehicle collision, a vehicle was stopped by police for travelling 123km/h in the 80km/h zone.
The Uniform Division of the Greater Sudbury Police Service undertook an enforcement blitz yesterday on Municipal Road 80. Nineteen drivers were charged with speeding.
In addition, a class G1 driver was stopped for speeding; the driver was not accompanied by a qualified driver and also had a requirement for an ignition interlock system. The driver was issued a summons to attend traffic court in order to answer to the charges and had their vehicle impounded for 7 days.
Drivers are reminded to drive according to the weather and road conditions. Make sure your vehicle is fit for the road and in proper working order. Slow down when road and weather conditions change, the posted speed limit is meant for ideal conditions.
The Traffic Management Unit has been enforcing Municipal Road 80 on a regular basis and will continue to do so
