Erratic Driving leads to Drug and Driving Charges

On the 27th of February, 2016, at 1130 pm, Uniform Officers were conducting general patrol in the Hanmer area. At this time officers came upon a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Dominion Drive. This oncoming vehicle sped past the Police Cruiser and accelerated eastbound on Dominion Drive. Officers made efforts to catch up to this vehicle without success, yet were able to see from a distance several vehicles being forced off the roadway as the suspect vehicle travelled on the wrong side of the road. Officers lost sight of the vehicle, however, continued to patrol the area. Soon afterwards, the suspect vehicle was located parked at the rear of a housing complex. At this point, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot through the snow. After a brief foot pursuit the suspect was arrested and taken into custody. As a result of this arrest, police located a quantity of currency, cocaine and methamphetamine pills. Police have identified and charged a 20 year old male with the following offences:
• Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
• Driving While Disqualified
• Obstruct Police
• 2 Counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
