As part of the Greater Sudbury Police Service’s ongoing commitment to road and community safety, officers from Patrol Operations and the Traffic Management Unit (TMU) were on the lookout for distracted drivers and motorists exceeding the posted speed limits. While looking for distracted drivers, officers from the TMU stopped two separate motorists for stunt driving.
On April 24th, a Traffic Management Officer observed a car on Municipal Road 55 near Copper Cliff travelling at a speed of 146 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. The driver was stopped on Lorne Street where the 36-year old male was charged with stunt driving.
The driver had his licence suspended and vehicle impounded for one week and faces steep fines and demerit points if convicted.
So far this month, officers from the Greater Sudbury Police Service have issued 121 charges to motorists for driving while using a hand-held communications device.
Community and road safety is our shared commitment and it starts with the actions and behaviours of every motorist that share our roadways.
