Update - November 19,2014 - Investigators believe the incidents are related with the calls originating from outside of Canada. No financial information was released by any of the businesses.
Very similar incidents where investigated throughout the United States in 2013, where the callers made threats and demanded financial information over the telephone. As in Sudbury, none of businesses complied with the demands.
Under section 372(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada, it is an offence to convey a false message with the intent to alarm someone.
This investigation is continuing.-

Update - November 18, 2014 7:25pm: GSO has obtained unofficial information beyond the original release that the second threat was made on Rexall Pharma Plus on Barrydowne, the third threat was made on Melvin Street Confectionary and a sum of money was demanded in all three cases but no explosive devices were located at any of the locations. Police investigation continues.

Original - November 18, 2014 2:25pm: Members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service are currently at three locations within the Greater Sudbury area as a result of Bomb Threats received approx. 20 minutes apart at about 1:00 p. m. today.
The only location identified at this time is the Esso on Regent St.
There is evidence to suggest that the same person made the threats. The locations involved are being checked for suspicious packages or items, and an update will be provided when available.
These types of calls are taken seriously. Public safety is paramount and officers will continue the search until they are satisfied the sites are safe.
Anyone with information as to who may be responsible for making these calls is urged to call police or Crime Stoppers.
