Since February, grade 3 to 8 students at Lively’s École St-Paul are taking part in the newly introduced archery program. Students have already benefitted from several sessions and are being taught various elements of the sport, such as safety and the positioning of the body to increase accuracy.
The addition of this sport to the school’s physical education program was made possible by two parents of the school. Mr. Jean-Marc Pitre, his wife Mrs. Laura Kinnonen, together with their company Enviro Energy donated $2,500 to École St-Paul, enabling the purchase of the archery equipment.
With the support of Jean-Marc Pitre and Laura Kinnonen, the school has successfully introduced this sport with its strong Native roots to St-Paul students. During physical education classes, these community partners share their knowledge and teach the basic fundamentals of this sport.
Whereas the sport of archery is very popular in North Bay schools, it has never gained a huge following in Greater Sudbury. At École St-Paul, students are now learning the thrill or archery and have become motivated to improve their accuracy and actively promote their newly discovered sport.
