Updated: Martindale Road re-opened following gas leak

Updated - November 28th, 2015 2:30pm: Martindale Road was re-opened around 2:00pm  following a major gas line rupture caused a motor vehicle collision yesterday afternoon.

Updated - November 28th, 2015 9:00am: Reports are that the area is still blocked of and an odor of gas present. We'll have further updates as they are made available.

Updated - November 27th, 2015 10:20pm: Greater Sudbury Fire Services say they have been on scene since approximately 2:30pm.

16 Fire Fighters from 4 stations responded to the incident.

20 people have been evacuated from nearby homes.

Union Gas is also on scene.

Updated - November 27th, 2015 5:15pm: The Greater Sudbury Police Service wants to advise the public that Martindale Road @ Southview Drive is closed to all vehicles due to a motor vehicle collision that occurred at approximately 2:10 pm. Fire is on scene as the vehicle involved struck a natural gas pole. The public is not in danger and precautions have been taken. 

Drivers must access alternate routes until further notice. Police are asking the public to use Bouchard St to Kelly Lake Road as an alternate route.

Updated - November 27th, 2015 3:15pm: Due to a gas line rupture, Martindale Road will be closed at Southview Drive. There is no danger to the public and Greater Sudbury Fire Services have secured the area and have evacuated 4 houses in the area as a precaution. Traffic will be re-routed through side streets. The City will issue an update as more information becomes available.

Reports that a section of Martindale is blocked of by Greater Sudbury Police and Greater Sudbury Fire. Apparently no vehicular or foot traffic is being given access.

If anybody knows what's going on let us know! We'll update as soon as we have more.
