On November 12, students and staff at Chelmsford’s École secondaire catholique Champlain took part in a “Bucket Challenge” as part of the launch of the Adaptive ALS Canuck Foundation campaign in their school. This Foundation supports individuals suffering from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

This “Bucket Challenge” event was spearheaded by Michel Leroux and Jeff Perreault with the support of family members. Michel Leroux, a key member of this fund-raising initiative, is well-known among ESC Champlain staff and students having recently retired after serving more than 25 years as a physical education teacher and coach of various sports teams. In the summer of 2015, Mr. Leroux learned that he is suffering from ALS. Also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, ALS is a progressive neuromuscular disease in which nerve cells die and leave voluntary muscles paralyzed.

Through their “Bucket Challenge” initiative, Jeff Perreault and Michel Leroux are raising funds to advance ALS adult stem-cell research in Canada.
