On May 29, 2016, at approximately 9:15 a.m. and 9:28 a.m., members of the Sudbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of two traffic complaints regarding a passenger car travelling westbound on Highway 17.
Information received was that the passenger car was being operated at a slow rate of speed, swerving between lanes and crossing the center line.
Police located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on the Kingsway at Second Avenue in the City of Greater Sudbury. Investigation revealed that the driver had consumed alcohol.
As a result of the investigation, a 45 year woman from Walden, was arrested and charged with the following:
1. Adult – Driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (Alcohol), contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
2. Adult – Driving with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
The accused driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle she was operating was impounded for seven (7) days.
The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury, on June 8, 2016 to answer to her charges.
The OPP is reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol or drug consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
