Updated - July 28th, 2016 11:05am: On the evening of July 28, Greater Sudbury Police Service responded to a call regarding a canoe that had capsized on Long Lake. Three male parties were canoeing when their vessel overturned. Only two of the individuals were able to safely swim to shore.
Residents on shore were alerted and called 9-1-1. The third male was located in the water and pulled to shore. EMS arrived on the scene and transported the male to Health Sciences North.
GSO had previously received information that the victim has succumbed to his injuries but the release indicates that the victim is still in critical condition in hospital.
The incident is still under investigation and Greater Sudbury Police are asking any citizens with information to contact Police at 705-675-9171.

A source tells GSO that a canoe overturned on long lake shortly before 6:30pm and two men were seen yelling for help locating a third person who was drowning. Witnesses say a neighbor swan out and pulled a male victim from approximately 20ft of water and brought him to shore where CPR was administered until first responders arrive. It is believed that the victim is in critical condition at Health Science North at this time.
Another witness reports that emergency services escorted by several police cars was seen heading towards Health Science North from the direction of Long Lake around the same time.
