City of Greater Sudbury Challenges Citizens to Dream Big to Develop Cultural Plan

The City of Greater Sudbury invites citizens to share their ideas to help build a new plan that will support a strong local arts and cultural community. A public survey is available online at www.greatersudburyculture.ca until Monday, May 5, 2014. Citizens who don’t have access to a computer, or who prefer to fill out the survey in writing, may do so by visiting any branch of the Greater Sudbury Public Library.

“Sustaining and growing a strong cultural identity is a way to enhance quality of life and to drive a knowledge based economy. We’re asking citizens for input to create a plan that reflects our community’s unique identity, people and sense of place,” said Gisele Chretien, Chair of Greater Sudbury’s Cultural Plan Steering Committee.

The Cultural Plan will build on the City of Greater Sudbury’s Arts and Cultural Charter, Strategy and Grant Policy which were adopted by Council in 2006 with the following goals: to create a community that is committed and supportive of arts and culture, proud of its character and heritage, values the economic potential and contribution of the arts, nurtures innovation and creative expression, and promotes strong collaborations and communication.

A steering committee of interested citizens and representatives of the Greater Sudbury arts and culture community is leading the planning process with support from municipal staff. Citizens will have further opportunities for input into the new cultural plan as work progresses. For more information, please visit www.greatersudburyculture.ca or dial 3-1-1 for municipal services.
