More than average snowfall blamed for over expenditure of approximately $2.3 million dollars.
According the city report, Greater Sudbury received 425 centimeters of snow in 2016; 166% more than the annual snowfall average for the city based on a thirty year average. This can be further broken down into the period between January and April, where the city received approximately 203% more snow than usually and November and December where we received 61% and 166% of our annual snowfall.
In addition, there is currently a deficit of $678,714 dollars for the first two months of the 2017 fiscal year due to above average snowfall and a significant number freezing rain and wet weather events which cost the over expenditure of approximately $811,084 for sanding, salting and plowing and an additional cost of $119,688 for snow removal. These numbers were offset slightly by under expenditures in other areas with the 2017 Roads Winter Controls Activities.
