Defective equipment is suspected to be the cause of a major out is Greater Sudbury today.
Approximately 17,000 customer in the Downtown, Minnow Lake and New Sudbury areas were left without power around 1pm in an outage that lasted just over an hour.
Sudbury Hydro was been able to re-route power to all effected customers and crews continue to work on the equipment suspected of causing the outage..
“Instances like this point to the importance of having redundancy built into the grid,” said Wendy Watson, Director of Communications. “We were able to restore within an hour because of that network.”
Earlier in the day, the downtown core had a brief, 2-minute outage caused by an equipment trip, which was re-set remotely, and 1685 customer in the Minnow Lake area experienced a 45-minute outage when a fuse blew.
