Greater Sudbury Fire, Sudbury Hydro and the Greater Sudbury police service responded to a manhole fire Wednesday at the intersection of Paris and Cedar Street.
The fire caused outages to sections of the downtown and affected traffic lights in the downtown core.
Sudbury Hydro says it hopes to restore power within half an hour. Greater Sudbury Fire requested power be disconnected to extinguish the fire.
Initial reports suggest that the fire may have been deliberately by individuals that were seen throwing cardboard and a cigarette into the manhole prior to the incident.
