Live Fire Training in Azilda from May to November 2014

The City of Greater Sudbury is advising residents of live fire training taking place in Azilda from May to November, 2014.

Greater Sudbury Fire Services will be conducting live fire training exercises for firefighters at the Emergency Training Academy at the Lionel E. Lalonde Centre, located at 239 Montée Principale in Azilda. Training will require controlled burning of wood and hay along with the use of smoke machines. Smoke machines use mineral oil to create a simulated smoke.

Residents and businesses in the immediate area may notice smoke originating from the training facility during the day, evenings and on weekends. The smoke is part of the exercise and should not be deemed a threat.

Training will run in May to June 2014 and will break for the summer, during July and August. Training will resume in September through to November 2014. Residents will be advised when training resumes in the fall.

The City is committed to ensuring the safety of all residents. Regular training for firefighters provides them with the skills and education needed to respond to the needs of the community.

Residents with questions about the training or about fire safety in general may contact Greater Sudbury Fire Services at 705-674-4455 ext. 2778 or ext. 2780.
