Flood Outlook Statement Extended for Greater Sudbury and Surrounding Area

The Ministry of Natural Resources - Sudbury District is advising area residents in Sudbury, Markstay-Warren, St. Charles, Espanola, areas of the North-shore, Manitoulin Island, the Municipalities of French River, Killarney and the unorganized townships south of Sudbury that a Watershed Conditions Statement - Flood Outlook remains in effect within these areas. The key watersheds included in this statement are; the Aux Sables River, Spanish River, Wanapitei River, Vermillion River, Onaping River and Whitefish River.

Residents in these areas should keep a close watch on conditions, regularly check for updated messages and stay away from fast-moving rivers and streams.MNR is closely monitoring the weather and developing watershed conditions. Further

updates will be issued as appropriate.

A Flood Outlook Statement is an Early notice of the potential for flooding based on weather forecasts calling for heavy rain, snow melt, high wind or other conditions that could lead to high runoff, cause ice jams, lakeshore flooding or erosion.

The weather forecast in the Sudbury District is calling for below normal temperatures for the next few days, with daytime highs in the 5-10 degree range and staying above freezing in the evenings. There will also be light rain of up to 15mm for the next couple of days.

There is some snowpack remaining higher in the watersheds with ice still on many of the rivers and lakes. The flows and water levels remain high with the recent precipitation that has been moving through our area as well as the ongoing spring freshet. With the fastmoving water we are advising residents, especially children, to use caution around local

rivers and streams.
