Updated: 24-year-old dead following weekend shooting in downtown

(GREATER SUDBURY, ON) Updated: Around 6:45 a.m. on August 5, 2023, officers were dispatched to a weapons complaint on Louis Street in Greater Sudbury. Information provided was that while at a social gathering, individuals were involved in a verbal argument that resulted in one of the individuals being shot.
Upon arrival, officers found a man who had sustained serious injuries. Officers began life-saving measures until City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services arrived. 24-year-old, Andrew Mackey was transported to the hospital, however, he was unfortunately pronounced deceased by medical professionals.

Based on the information provided, officers located two men matching the descriptions of the individuals believed to be involved in the altercation on Notre Dame Avenue. Both men were taken into custody without incident. Upon searching the individuals, officers located what is believed to be the firearm used during the incident. 
28-year-old, David Pusey has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada;
• Second degree murder
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm
• Weapons dangerous
• Pointing a firearm
• Careless use of firearm
• Possession of firearm knowing possession is unauthorized
• Carry concealed weapon
• Possession of prohibited weapon
• Discharge firearm with intent
• Fail to comply with release order
• Breach of weapons prohibition order
He was additionally arrested on an outstanding warrant for obstruct police and breach of release order in relation to an incident in 2022. 
He attended Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on August 5, 2023 to answer to the charges.
The second individual arrested on Notre Dame Avenue was released unconditionally, however based on the ongoing investigation, detectives from the Major Crime Section arrested the individual on August 7, 2023 in relation to the incident. 
25-year-old, Dominique Buledi has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada;
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm
• Weapons dangerous
• Careless use of firearm
• Possession of firearm knowing possession is unauthorized
• Carry concealed weapon
• Possession of prohibited weapon
He will attend bail court today, August 8, 2023 to answer to the charges. 
This was a targeted incident as the individual involved are known to each other. 
We would like to recognize the timely and coordinated response of patrol officers who quickly located and arrested a dangerous individual.

 

Original: Greater Sudbury Police responded to a shooting in the downtown on Louis Street around 7:00am on Saturday August 5th, 2023.

Police asked in a tweet at the time that the public avoid the area and that there were multiple scenes.

One person was brought to HSN where they succumbed to their injuries.
