The Special Investigation Unit has been called in following the death of a suspect involved in an Intimate Partner Violence incident while in police custody this morning.
Greater Sudbury Police responded to in relation an incident involving Intimate Partner Violence incident on Kieth Avenue just before 10:40 am on January 2, 2024.
When officers arrived on scene, they made entry into the residence to ensure the safety of those involved in the incident.
Upon affecting the arrest, the individual became unresponsive, and officers began life-saving measures with the assistance of City of Greater Sudbury Paramedics. Unfortunately, the individual was pronounced deceased on scene.
As the individual was in police custody when pronounced deceased, the Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate and will be investigating the circumstances into the death. As such, we are prohibited by legislation from providing any further information related to this incident.
The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) will be on scene investigating the matter. No other information is available at this time as this is an active SIU investigation.
