(SUDBURY, ON) - Today, September 11, 2024, marks the somber anniversary on the disappearance of Meagan Rose Pilon for friends and family. Meagan, 15 years old and the time, was last seen 11 years ago following a visit with her father at the hospital and later stopping to see her brother.
At the time of her disappearance, Meagan was 15 years old and was described as being 5’10’ tall,
approximately 140 lbs., with dark hair, hazel eyes, and a small scar on her right upper lip. Meagan also has a Playboy bunny tattoo on her left shoulder.
Earlier this week, Greater Sudbury Police issued a statement re-affirming there commitment to solving Meagan’s case “We remain committed to investigating the circumstances of the disappearance of Meagan Pilon and finding answers for her loved ones and the community.”
Meagan Pilon's disappearance in 2013 has been investigated by several organizations, including the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS), which leads the case, and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), which has provided additional support. Crime Stoppers has promoted her case to encourage anonymous tips, while the National Centre for Missing Persons and Unidentified Remains (NCMPUR) included her in their national database. The Missing Children Society of Canada and the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (CCCP) have also raised awareness and provided support to her family.
The case has also garnered a lot of attention due to the mysterious nature of her disappearance and the lack of any substantial evidence or clues. Groups such as “Please Bring Me Home” and “Greater Sudbury Missing Persons” and others continue their mission to find answers for the family over a decade later. There have also been a couple of documentaries about Meagan’s disappearance; “The Search for Meagan Pilon” was released as part of the Unsolved series by CTV News Northern Ontario in 2020 and also featured in an episode of “Last Seen Alive” on the Discovery Network. Despite these efforts, Meagan remains missing, and her case is still unsolved.
Back in mid August, “Please Bring Me Home”, a group dedicated to investigating missing persons cases throughout Canada announced that they had received “significant information” regarding Meagan’s case and on August 24th a group of volunteers scoured an area of interest in Sudbury but unfortunately found nothing.
We caught up with Natasha Pickering from “Please Bring Me Home” to talk about Meagan’s case and ask about this “significant information”, however Pickering emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and declined further comment citing the need to protect the integrity of the case.
“While this update brings renewed hope, the family and investigators remain cautious, focused on the uncovering the truth behind Meagan’s disappearance.” Pickering explained.
Pickering continued by issuing a heartfelt plea for anyone with information about Meagan’s disappearance to come forward, stressing that any small detail could be a crucial key to solving the case. She continued by emphasizing the importance that anonymous tipsters provide as much detail as possible because it is NOT possible for the “Please Bring Me Home” team to follow up.
It was evident to me in speaking with Pickering that the case was “near and dear” to her. When asked what made this case special, Pickering explained, “I've come to regard Meagan as one of my own, and her family as dear friends. Their unwavering strength and resilience in the face of unimaginable pain have left an indelible mark on my heart.”
“The anniversary resonates deeply with me as I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside Meagan’s family through their darkest moments. Witnessing firsthand the anguish and heartbreak that has become their daily reality.” she continued, “I have seen countless cherished moments that Meagan would have loved, including visits with her adorable niece, which only intensify the longing for her return. The family's pain has been compounded by the loss of Meagan's grandmother and her father's courageous battle with dementia and cancer. Meagan's father's greatest wish is to know what happened to his beloved daughter before he leaves this world, a wish I'm determined to help fulfill.”
Pickering finished by saying “Let's work together to bring closure to the family of Meagan Pilon and uncover the truth behind Meagan's disappearance.”
