Home Invasion in Coniston

Home invasion occurred at a residence on Walter Street in Coniston shortly after 9 pm on Monday March 16. The victims are an elderly couple both in their 80's. The suspect approached the residence and gained entry by knocking on the door.

The elderly wife thought it was someone she knew and let him in. It was not.

The suspect was wearing a hoodie and glasses hiding his face. He immediately cut the phone lines with knife. He stated "I have a knife and want your money." Her husband was home at this time. The wife was able to escape and she ran out of the house to the neighbours for help. They called police.

The suspect fled before police arrived. The elderly couple were both taken to HSN with minor non-life threatening injuries.

Members of the Criminal Investigations Division and the Break, Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit continue to investigate the home invasion that occurred Monday evening. Officers are also canvassing the area.

From information obtained at the scene, the suspect is described as male, Caucasian, approx. 5`8`` - 6`0``, early 20`s with a thin build; he was wearing dark-coloured clothing.

The victims were treated at hospital and released.

Police do not believe this to be a random act and that the suspect chose this residence in advance. Community safety is a priority and citizens in the area should feel secure; however, everyone is asked to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activities to police.

Anyone with information regarding this home invasion is asked to call police.
