Erratic driving complaints ends in crash

(SUDBURY, ON) – On December 26, 2015 at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers from the Sudbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received two traffic complaints regarding a red Volkswagen Jetta driving erratically, travelling at a high rate of speed and forcing other motorists to take evasive action in order to avoid a collision. The suspect vehicle was last seen heading eastbound on Highway 17 West (4-lanes), City of Greater Sudbury.
An OPP officer observed the suspect vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 17 at a high rate of speed.
Shortly thereafter, the vehicle was involved in a collision at the intersection of Paris and Regent Street in Sudbury, ON. Investigation revealed the suspect vehicle collided with an SUV, causing the SUV to subsequently roll-over. The collision also caused a light post to come down onto a van. In total, there were four vehicles involved in the collision. The male driver of the SUV was taken to hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released. With the assistance of some by-standers at the scene, the 33-year-old male suspect, from Sudbury, was eventually arrested and taken into custody. He was later transported to hospital and admitted with non-life threatening injuries.
The incident is being investigated by the Ontario Provincial Police and the Greater Sudbury Police Service.
The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
