Chelmsford teen charged with dangerous driving and failing to stop.

On the 15th of March 2016 at approximately 4:45pm, while conducting speed enforcement on Errington Avenue in Chelmsford, a traffic officer observed a three wheeled ATV at a high rate of speed travelling down the centre of the road while traffic was flowing in both directions. The ATV driver chose not to stop and fled from police through a stop sign and busy intersection again at a high rate of speed.

With the assistance of witnesses, the rider was identified a short time after. Police attended the rider’s residence to find the ATV and arrested a 17 year old male. He charged with the following;

• Dangerous Driving
• Fail to Stop for Police
• No Insurance
• No Drivers Licence
• No Number Plate
• Unlawfully Drive Off-Road Vehicle on a Highway
• Speeding more than 20km/h
• Failing to Drive on Shoulder
• Disobey Stop Sign

The young rider was transported to police headquarters where he was released from custody with a court date in April.

Further, traffic enforcement in the area resulted in highway traffic act infractions to motorist for speeding and one for using a handheld device.

Police would like to remind all ATV enthusiasts to be safe and courteous when riding on our city streets. All rules of the road apply such as speed limits, stop signs and having to stop for police when requested.
