Barricaded Suspect Arrested After Overnight Standoff in Capreol

Capreol, ON – A tense standoff in Capreol came to an end early Tuesday morning after a 36-year-old man was taken into custody following an hours-long police operation on Hanna Avenue.
The incident began around 10:55 a.m. on April 1, 2025, when Greater Sudbury Fire Services responded to a structure fire at a residence on Hanna Avenue. While firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, an individual at the scene became aggressive and later barricaded himself inside the residence before police arrived.
Members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service’s Patrol Operations quickly secured the area, and the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) was dispatched. Upon attempting to negotiate with the individual, officers faced gunfire from inside the residence. In response, nearby residents were ordered to shelter in place, and vehicle and pedestrian traffic was restricted to ensure public safety.
The standoff continued through the night as officers worked to resolve the situation. Around 5:00 a.m. on April 2, ERU officers entered the residence and located the individual. After nearly two hours of negotiations inside the home, the suspect was taken into custody at approximately 6:50 a.m.

The 36-year-old man now faces multiple firearm-related charges as well as a charge of unlawfully being in a dwelling. He is scheduled to appear in Bail Court later today.
