Homicide investigation following weapons complaint; suspect in custody

20-year-old pronounced deceased in hospital

[GREATER SUDBURY, ON] - Update on Cabot St. Incident: Following an overnight scene hold at a Cabot St. address, detectives diligently worked to secure a search warrant. The Forensic Identification Unit meticulously processed multiple scenes, and numerous witnesses were interviewed to gather crucial information.

The execution of the search warrant took place on Saturday, leading to the release of the scene. Bradley Peltier, a 30-year-old resident of Wikwemikong, appeared in bail court this morning and has been remanded into custody. Peltier is facing charges of first-degree murder and possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace.

Due to ongoing consultations with the family, the identity of the 20-year-old deceased is being withheld at this time. A postmortem examination is scheduled for next week in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Our heartfelt condolences go out to all those affected by this tragedy.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division will continue their efforts in the coming days, seeking additional witnesses and pursuing any further evidence to strengthen their case for court.

On the evening of February 2, 2024, just before 8:00 PM, local police and emergency medical services promptly responded to a weapons complaint in the vicinity of Cabot St. and Hearne Ave. A 20-year-old male, suffering from injuries caused by an edged weapon, was transported to Health Sciences North by Emergency Medical Services for urgent medical attention. Regrettably, the victim was later pronounced deceased.

The Major Crimes Section of the Criminal Investigations Division has initiated a homicide investigation into the incident. A suspect has been apprehended and is scheduled to appear in Weekend & Statutory Holiday (W.A.S.H.) Court on Saturday morning. The identity of the detained individual will not be disclosed until the court appearance.

Law enforcement personnel are anticipated to remain at the scene for an extended period. The identity of the victim will not be revealed at this juncture, pending confirmation of notification to the next-of-kin.

Assurances have been given that there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Individuals possessing information related to the incident are urged to contact the police at 705-675-9171.
