Vagnini located deceased; foul play not suspected

(GREATER SUDBURY, ON) - In a somber turn of events, authorities were summoned to the vicinity of Reserve Camp Road on Atikiamekshing Anishnawbek First Nation earlier today, February 13, 2024. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) had alerted the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) regarding the whereabouts of a black 2021 Ram 1500 truck bearing Ontario license plate BK22178, the last vehicle associated with Michael Vagnini, who went missing on January 27, 2024.

A collaborative effort ensued as officers from the OPP and detectives from the Major Crime Section of GSPS's Criminal Investigation Division, in conjunction with personnel from Patrol Operations and the Rural Community Response Unit, converged upon the area. Regrettably, the outcome was tragic, as 62-year-old Michael Vagnini was discovered deceased a short distance from the aforementioned vehicle. While detectives have initiated the preliminary stages of their investigation into Vagnini's death, foul play is currently not suspected.

The investigation remains ongoing, with detectives working in tandem with the OPP and the Coroner’s Office to unravel the circumstances surrounding Vagnini's untimely demise. A postmortem examination is slated to be conducted by the Coroner’s Office, aiming to shed light on the cause of Vagnini's death.

During this challenging and emotional period, heartfelt condolences are extended to Michael’s bereaved family and friends. Authorities urge the public to honor their privacy as they navigate through this trying time.
