Police warning of new email scam involving traffic offenses

Police Services across the country are receiving complaints from citizens regarding a new traffic violations email scam.

The emails claim that the recipient has committed an offense and lists an “Infringement number” and the total amount due in Canadian dollars. The email goes on to say that “the documentation will be sent by mail to your address. However, you can check it now, please press here DRIVER NOTIFICATION”.

Police are reminding the public that they do not email notifications for alleged traffic offenses and request money to be sent.

They also recommend you do not open the link in the email. It is unknown if opening the link will cause damage to your computer.
