Updated - November 2nd, 2016 6:30pm: At approximately 11:00 a.m., Greater Sudbury Police responded to a call regarding a suspicious package located on the second floor outdoor concourse between Tom Davies Square and 199 Larch Street. The City of Greater Sudbury evacuated both buildings as a precaution in order to ensure employee and public safety.
As part of the investigation, the Greater Sudbury Police Service contacted the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in order to assist with determining the contents of the package. The Greater Sudbury Police Service Tactical Unit successfully neutralized the package and determined it to be empty.
The Greater Sudbury Police Service would like to thank the OPP for its assistance with the investigation. The Service would also like to thank the employees of Tom Davies Square and 199 Larch Street for their concern for public and employee safety, as they evacuated both buildings in a calm and deliberate manner.
Greater Sudbury Police remind citizens that it is always safer to air on the side of caution when a package of unknown origin is located and appears out of place. If you are unaware of where a package came from or what a package contains, you are urged to review your organizations policy for dealing with these types of situations and consult a supervisor. If the package is determined to be suspicious, contact police immediately.

We're told that this suspicious package was a red locked tool box located under a bench near the day care.
Member of the OPP tactical unit are on route from North Bay to examine the box.
