Around 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017, Greater Sudbury Police were called to a two vehicle collision on Municipal Road 84 near Suez Drive. The collision claimed the life of a 22-year old man from Greater Sudbury who was a passenger in one of the vehicles. An investigation into the fatal motor vehicle collision has revealed that the car driven by a 21-year old man crossed the centre line and collided with an oncoming SUV that was being driven by a 40-year old man. The investigation has resulted in an arrest.
21-year old, Ethan Filippini, the driver of the car that crossed the centre line has been charged with Impaired Driving Causing Death, Operation of a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol Causing Death, Dangerous Driving Causing Death, Possession of a Schedule II Drug and Young Driver - Blood Alcohol Concentration Above Zero.
The driver of the SUV sustained non-life threatening injuries as a result of the collision, was transported to hospital by EMS, treated and released. He is recovering at home.
Filippini is scheduled to appear in court on June 28, 2017.
