Updated: January 28th, 2016 4:30pm: A 39yr old Sudbury woman has been charged with Careless Driving for crossing the centre line in a fatal collision that occurred on Municipal Road 80 on the 18th of January 2016 that claimed the life of one driver and injured another.
During the investigation, collision investigators found that brake components of the charged driver’s vehicle were faulty and as a result, she was also charged with operating her vehicle with defective brakes.
Although determined not to have been a contributing factor in the collision, the Highway Traffic Act requires that braking systems be maintained in good working order at all times.
The accused will be attending court on the 14th of March to answer to the charges.

Updated - January 19th, 2016 5:00pm: The Greater Sudbury Police Traffic Management Unit is continuing the investigation into the fatality that occurred on Municipal Road 80 in the City of Greater Sudbury.
A Southbound Nissan Titan pickup truck was travelling in the centre lane when it lost control and crossed over into the Northbound lanes. The Nissan pickup truck struck the front driver’s side of the Honda CRV travelling Northbound in the curb lane. The impact of the collision resulted in the driver of the Honda CRV to be fatally injured. A second collision occurred when the driver of a Nissan Altima also Northbound tried to avoid the initial collision and struck the Nissan Titan truck on the driver’s side door. The driver of the Nissan Titan and Nissan Altima were taken to Health Sciences North with non-life threatening injuries. They were treated and released.
The driver of the Honda CRV has been identified as Gary O’Bumsawin 41 years of age of Sudbury. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The collision is still under investigation and the Traffic Management Unit would like to speak with any witnesses who might have observed the Nissan Titan, Nissan Altima or Honda CRV prior to the collision occurring.

Updated - January 18th, 2016 3:40pm: Municipal Road 80 is now open. The motor vehicle collision in under investigation by members of the Traffic Management Unit. A follow up release will be provided with more information. The Greater Sudbury Police Service is urging any witnesses to the collision to call 705-675-9171.

Updated - January 18th, 2016 11:30am: One person has died and two others remain in serious condition following a 3 vehicle collision on Highway 69N (MR#80) near Tracks N Wheels this morning around 7:30am.
Greater Sudbury Police advise that they expect Highway 69N (MR#80) will be closed in both directions until 2:00pm.

Police and Emergency Services are on scene of a Serious Motor Vehicle collision involving 3 motor vehicles on Municipal Road 80 near Tracks and Wheels
Police have closed the roadway down to investigate the collision and request the motoring public to seek an alternate route into the city. The roadway is anticipated to be closed down until noon.
