OPP RIDE program leads to drug charges

On March 14, 2016, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division (HSD) established a R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere) initiative at the intersection of Highway 69 and Highway 64, in the Municipality of French River.
At approximately 8:30 pm, officers had occasion to check a southbound vehicle occupied by a male driver who stopped at the R.I.D.E. program.
Officers detected the odor of marijuana emanating from interior of the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, police located and seized a quantity of drugs inside the pickup truck.
The driver, Gerald MCKEE, 49 years of age from Sudbury, was arrested and charged with the following:
1. Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
2. Possession of a Schedule II Substance - Cannabis Marihuana - under 30grams, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury, on May 25, 2016, to answer to his charges.
