BREAKING: CRA SECURITY BREACH RELATED TO HEARTBLEED

As many as 900 SINs affected according to initial reports, RCMP investigating.

An investigation has begun to analyze the data of a security breach that occurred over a 6 hour period by somebody leveraging the Heartbleed vulnerability.

Once it is determine which SIN numbers are affected, those individual will be sent a register letter informing that their information was affected. A dedicated 1-800 number has also been set up to provide them with further information, including what steps to take to protect the integrity of their SIN. The Agency will has made it clear that they will not be calling or emailing individuals to inform them that they have been impacted  to ensure that communications are secure and cannot be exploited by fraudsters through phishing schemes.

50 Year Woman Charged with Break, Enter, Thieft of Family Pet

On the 9th of April 2014 a female party broke into a residence on Riverside Drive and stole the family pet. The owner of the dog was driving in the area of Regent Street the following day and found a female who was walking his dog on the sidewalk. Police were contacted by the male.

CRA update regarding the Heartbleed Bug – Online services restored

The CRA states that they have addressed the security risks associated with the Heartbleed Bug that forced that to temporarily suspect online services on April 7. As a result the deadline for individual tax returns has been extended to May 5, 2014.

The first lunar eclipse of 2014 will occur Monday and Tuesday evening. The eclipse should peak at approximately 3am on Tuesday and weather permit should provide a spectacular sight in the night sky.

City of Greater Sudbury Honours Its Volunteers

The Greater Sudbury Civic Awards, which recognize individuals and groups who consistently give back to the community, were presented to three youth recipients, four groups and 26 individuals. Civic Awards promote and reward leadership, humanitarian service, and enrichment of the human spirit through volunteerism and community involvement.
