On the 27th of May 2014, at approximately 8:30 pm, the Greater Sudbury Police Service received several calls of an erratic driver in the Azilda area. Having also received a description of the suspect vehicle, uniform officers who were in the nearby area, actively searched the vicinity.

Canada Road Safety Week took place May 13 – May 19, 2014. This road safety campaign is an annual collaborative effort by Canadian Police Services to target high risk driving behaviours that put drivers and others at risk. It is an enforcement-driven initiative designed to increase public awareness and compliance with safe driving measures and ultimately save lives.

A 2010 study, published in the Journal of Traffic Injury Prevention, concluded that more than 10 per cent of drivers randomly pulled over for a survey tested positive for drug use, compared to eight per cent who had been drinking alcohol. A 2012 study (http://ow.ly/wNop5) found a two-fold increase in the risk of an accident if there is any measurable amount of THC (the active ingredient in cannabis) in the bloodstream.

The 9th Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Toll was a great success again in 2014. As in the past, the public came through and the total amount raised this year is $23,500 (more than $187,500 over 9 yrs.).

The Greater Sudbury Police Service will be holding the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics on May 21st 2014. Participants will be jogging from Science North to Tom Davies Square.

May 19th, 2014 The Greater Sudbury Police Service is currently on scene of a fire on Kathleen Street in Greater Sudbury. At approximately 1:40 am this morning fire was set to a large garbage bin located outside the Jem Mart convenience store.

On the 16th of May 2014 at 9:00 pm, officers of the Uniform Division responded to a report of an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) collision on Simmons Road in Rayside-Balfour.

On the 16th of May 2014 at approximately 10:30 am, officers of the Break Enter and Robbery (BEAR) unit had occasion to observe a stolen truck. The stolen vehicle, a 1997 green GMC was parked unattended in a parking lot on Beech Street in Greater Sudbury.
